June the 23 1787 the Examination of Thomas Cotten< no role > taken
this day who says as follows That he was in Company
with a Joseph Ward< no role > & Thos. Cox< no role > bath of Manchester Ribber
Weavers att the sign of the Two Brewers Shoreditch on
Friday was Fortnight from about 4 o'Clock in the Afternoon
till about 8 the same Evening when after some conver-
vation they agreed to meet again on the Friday following
about 3 in the afternoon accordingly they met and on hismy
informing them that one Samuel [..] Blakely< no role >
a blind man who he was sure Was possesed of some moneys
and had a room upon the samepainterpremises and [..]
thought it would be an easie matter to came att it
then the said Ward Cox and himself agreed to meet on the
Wednesday following at 4 o'clock in the afternoon att which
time he had fixed with them to take him out to the
new road at the new Chappell Gates, having so done
he then went home and sent Mary Hancock< no role > with whom
he then Cohabited out on an Errand to her Mother's, as
soon as she was gone he went and informed Ward & Cox
that the House was clear and that was the Oppertunity
to gett att the Blind man's mkoney accordingly they
came up with him into the Gardens when Cox forced the
wooden pannell out of the Sash window which was
fastned in with about Six nails he then put his arm
in through braken place with a stick in his hand and
took att the end thereof with which he drew a hatt
from under the side of the bed that contained two purses
as small Bags tied with String from one of which they took
Two Pounds in half crowns and five pounds in
Shillings and the other bag contained fourteen
Shilling in bad half pence part of which they
put into the Bag from whence they to at the
Silver they then pushd the hatt and bags into
the place from whence it was drawn the then
