John Townsend< no role > of Spittal fields Market Salesman
upon his Oath Saith that on Saturday Morning last
a little after nine oClock he was Sitting at his
Warehouse door about fifteen Yards from the
deceaseds House. observed Mrs. Hawkins standing
close to the Stall board of the Shop just on the
outside of the Street Door and on a sudden go in
and knock at the Door of the little Room behind
the Shop. Deponent went down towards her (having
heard something fall.) and went into the Shop
when & she dropt on her knees before ye Room
Door and endeavoured to get it open but could
not Deponent asked her what was the
Matter she replied She thought her Sister was
fallen down upon which he endeavoured to
for me the Door open and got his foot between
the Door and the Cars so as [..] into the
Room where he saw the deceased laying
upon the floor and saw her Body from her
breast to her feet covered with blood he then
turned back again and met a Mr. Morgan
whom he desired to break the Door open
Mr. Morgan did so Deponent than looked
in and Saw the deceased dead and covered
with blood and supposed she had murdered herself
Saith that he has known Mrs. Hughes eight or Nine
Years but never observed any thing particular her
behaviour except that within the last Six Weeks She has
appeared low spirited
