The Information of Elizabeth Tarrier< no role > late
Servant at the Elephant in Monmouth Street
but now at No. 20 in Plumbtree Street Bloomsbury
taken before me this 17th. day of January
1784.

Who being on Oath says that about 11 o'Clock at Night on
Wednesday the 14th.. of January Instants. she was directed by her
Mistress (Mrs. Allen) to carry a Pot of Beer to the House of a Person
now present who calls himself Matthew Costelo< no role > . That this Informant
carried a Pot of Beer to the said Matthew Costelo< no role > 's accordingly,
whom she found in the Shop alone below That after this Informant
had set the Beer down on a Compter in said Shop, said Costelo
locked the Shop-door, took hold of her by force, carried her
into a Parlour adjoining the Shop, locked said Parlour door
and said "God damn ye for a Bitch I will ravish ye"-That
said Costelo then threw this Informant on a Bed in said Parlour,
pulled up her Petticoats and by force and violence feloniously ravished
and carnally knew this Informant against her Will and Consent;
That this Informant made every resistance in her power & cried
out Murder several times, but without any effect, and
further says that when William Barnard< no role > the Soldier , knocked
at the said parlour-door during the time said Costelo & this
Informant were in said parlour, she this Informant (from [..]
[..] threats and Menaces which said Costelo uttered) was afraid
to inform him of her situation
