THE Information of Mary Lee< no role > [..] Edward Tranter< no role > and Sarah his Wife
Taken this 6th. Day of February 1783 before us Peter Greene< no role > & Robert Smith< no role >
Esquires two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said County

Who being upon [..] their Oaths severally and respectively say and first the said
Mary Lee< no role > for herself Saith that she is servant to Mr. John Jones< no role > at the Rox Bark in the New
Road Saint George Middlesex Victualler . That there wastakenstolen from out of a Box in her
Room some time last Week One Shift and that since sunday night last the following
things were feloniously taken and Carried away from out of her said Box Viz. One
Other Shift, One Coloured Apron One New Silk Handkerchief. One Silk and Cotton ditto
One Pocket Handkerchief Dotted. One Yard of Flowered Cotton. and One Green Silk
Gown her property. That the Green Silk Gown. Coloured Apron. the Dotted Pocket
Handkerchief and the Yard of Flower Cotton< no role > now here be with produced is part of
her property which was so stolen as aforesaid and that the above recited Articles
were as she verily believes from the Information she has received feloniously
taken and Carried away by Daniel Bailey< no role > (now present) a Soldier Quartered in
the house of the said John Jones< no role > her Master and further Saith not.

And the said Edward Tranter< no role > for himself Saith that he lives at No. 4 Water Cock
Alley East Smithfield That on Tuesday last he was at the Black Horse in East
Smithfield aforesaid drinking a Pint of Beer with the Prisoner Daniel Barley< no role >
who desired this Informant to pledge the Green Silk Gown (now here produced
and which was tied up in the Handkerchief also now produced) for him East which
Informant refused. Informant Asked him (Prisoner) how he came by the Gown
who told him he had lived with a Girl that had taken his whole Kit of
Cloaths away but that she had left the Silk Gown, which he wished to have
Pawned to get some drink, Informant then told him he would not Pawn
it himself but would go with him to his Wife who would Pledge the same
for him. That they accordingly went [..] to his wife who pledged
the same and Brought Bailey the Money who then told Informant he was
Quartered at Jones's and was going to him to sell his Quarters out, and if he
would go he with him there he would give him a Treat. Informant then went
with him and when they had got with in about thirty or Forty Yards of Jones
Bailey desired him not to take any notice to Mr Jones about the Gown he had desired
him to Pawn Put his hand in his Porket, gave him Six pence and desired
him to go to Jones's call for a pot of Beer and pay for it. That he accordingly
went to Mr. Jones's called for a Pint of Beer drank twice paid for it and
returned to Mr. Youngs to acquaint him of his Suspicions (from the
Caution Bailey had given him about not saying any thing to Jones)
that the Gown was Stolen who requested Informant would return to
Mr Jones's and acquaint him of his (this Informants) Suspicion
Informant then returned to Mr. Jones's and upon Enquiry found that
the said Gown Handkerchief and Sundry other things had been
Stolen from the above named Informant Mary Lee< no role > whereupon
