The Information of Henry Penton< no role > Esquire
of the Admiralty , taking upon Oath this 4th September 1781
before me William Hyde< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace for the Said City and Liberty, who Saith that
on Sunday the 26th of August 1781 he was coming by Charing Cross
he found somebody bury about his pocket he put his Hand
Down towards his pocket & he caught hold of the Hand of
Mary Droley the Prisoner this deponent he Immediately said he believ'd
she had get his Handkerchief on which she denied it and
put her hand under her Cloak on Applying to his pocket
he found he had not last his Handkerchief but his Snuff box
This deponent immediately took hold of her Hand again
she having hath her hands behind her Seem'd to be Shifting
something from one to the other, I had hold of one Hand and
on laying hold on the other I heard something drop on the
Pavement which on looking for it I found to be my snuff
Box I Immediately Secur'd her and Carried her to the
Watch house
