before us two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in
and for the said County the 5th. day of Febry 1774
Who saith that on Monday last (31st January) about six o'Clock
in the evening he was met by a man who appeared to him
to be a Sailor [..] near Rag Fair
Rosemary Lane
which said
Man asked him if he had been Discharged from a Man of
War and after some [..] other Discourse the said Man asked
him if [..] he this Informant would go and Drink with
him which he consented to do accordingly he this
Informant and the said Man went to a Publick House
in White Lion Street
and there calld for a Pot of Purl
saith that white they were Drinking the said Purl two
other persons came in one of whom pretended to be a [..]
Country Man and had a Great deal of Money which was
lately left him [..] and which said pretended Country man
said they were a Set of Taylors and Weavers and had no
Money or words to that effects and further said that he
would give this Informant and the said other two persons a
Shilling for every Guinea they should showsaith that
a Man now present who calls himself Benjamin Godfrey< no role >
persuaded him to Shew a Guinea which he [..] did and
