The Information of Samuel Oliver< no role > one of the Watchmen
of the Parish of St Mary le bone in the County of Middx
taken upon Oath before me one of his Majesty's Justices
of the Peace in & for the said County City & Liberty this
13th Day of January 1770 .

This Informant being upon his Oath saith, that as he was calling the hour of Twelve
last Night (to wit Friday Night the 12th January) on his round in Oxford Street , He this
Informant Saw Three Men; Two of whom are entire Strangers to this Informant but
one of the Three is one Louis a Smith who works now, or lately did, for Mr Robert
Hayes
< no role > a Master Smith in Oxford Street , And this Informant Samuel Oliver< no role > upon his
Oath Saith that the said Three Men (one of whom is the said Louis) he did actually
see breaking open the outside shop Shutter of a House in Oxford Street Whereupon he
this Informant went to call one John Pemberton< no role > to his Assistance in order to try
to apprehend them, And that the said John Pemberton< no role > accordingly did come to this
Informant's immediate Assistance; And on this Informants coming up the said
men dispersed themselves different ways; But this Informant knew Louis
and Spoke to him; And Louis wished this Informant a good Night then this Informt.
called his Hour of 12 as far from the Spot as he cou'd with Safety (so as not to give
them much time to Get into the House) & returned back again to the Same spot, where
he saw the said Men (the said Louis being one) all at work at the said Shutters,
And that they did actually break open the said Shutter, and made a large hole
therein of the whole length of the Pannell and wide Enough for a Man to thrust
his Arm through, quite up to his shoulder, And this Informant upon his Oath
saith that the said Louis, and the other Men who were then in his Company, did
so break the said Shutter with no other View or Design but to commit Felony, and
to Rob the said Shop or House.
