Middlesex to wit.

The Information of Mr John Gascoign< no role > an Officer in his Majesty's Office
of Excise in the London Distillery taken upon Oath this 7th Day of Novemr.
1769 before Us, Two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the
said County.

This Informant being upon his Oath saith that on Wednesday the 1st. Instant Novemr. 1769
about Two of the Clock for the Morning he was coming out of Lord Vane's House (which he has the care of during
his Lordship's absence from Town) And this Informant was going about his Majesty's business
and an his coming out of Lord Vane's House he met at the Door of the said House Robert Stephenson< no role >
the Watchman who watches in Argyll Street, And while this Informant was discoursing with
the said Watchman, The said Watchman said that there were three Men coming out of Mrs.
Winford's House (which is the next Door to Lord Vane's) Upon which this Informant turned himself
about and saw the last of the three Men come off the Step of the Doorway of Mrs. Winford's House
and Step on to the Pavement (And that the said Man was without any Shoes on) This Informant
likewise saith on his Oath that both Mrs. Winford's Lamp and Lord Vane's Lamp were both out
(which were constantly lighted.) Upon this Informant's seeing the last of the three Men Come
down off the Steps onto the footway pavement, and seeing him run as fast as he could run, He
this Informant run after him and cryed out Stop thief for this Informant had never Lost
Sight of the said Man; And this Informant being a nimble runner Over took and Came
up with the said Man Whose Name is Joseph Brown , That Joseph Brown< no role > had been drinking
but was not so disguised in Liquor but that he run and walked very well That this Informant
had never left sight of Joseph Brown< no role > from the time he saw him come off the Steps untill he
was apprehended, And he this Informant followed him so close that Joseph Brown fell down
and this Informant fell upon him (and Joseph Brown was then without any Stoes)
And this Informant upon his Oath saith that the said Men had feloniously and burglariously
Entered Mrs. Winfords said Dwelling House in Argyll Street for he saw that they had pissed upon
the Landing of the one P Stains floor And had pissed and Shit in the Hall or passage of the
said House, And he upon his Oath charges the said Joseph Brown and the other Two Men
(unknown to this Informant) with having feloniously and burglariously Entered the said Mrs.
Winford's House with intent to rob the same (as no person Except the said three Men) were
in the said Mrs. Winford's House or had any one the care thereof so as to be resident therein during her Absence from Town And that
the said Three Men had left the pont or Street Door of Mrs. Winfords said House nearly wide open.
That the said Piss on the [..] PStairs Landing place was quite fresh and Wet; and the Piss and Human
Excrement in the Hall or Passage was quite fresh. And this Informant saith that soon after [..] Joseph
Brown was apprehended he threw away 2 Pick Lock Keys, And that while he this Informant
[..] had the said Joseph Brown in Custody the said Joseph Brown< no role > [..] Stabbed, Wounded and Cut [..] him in
avery terrible Manner; And this Informant upon his oath saith that he verily and in truth
Suspects and beleives that the Intention of the said Joseph Brown and his 2 Accomplices was
to rob Mrs. Winford's said House, and that the Intention of the said Joseph Brown< no role > was to
Murder him this Informant.
