The King against William Thornhill< no role > on
Several Indictment for Forgery

The said Defendant William Thornhill< no role > maketh Oath that
One George Brown< no role > a Half pay Lieutenant is a material
and necessary Witness on the Behalf of this Defendant on
the several Indictment found against this Defendant and
Without the Benefit of Whose Testimony this Defendant cannot
Safely proceed to the Tryal of the said Indictments or either
of them And this Defendant saith that he hath been
informed and verily believes that the said George Brown< no role >
now is and for some Time last past hath been in or
near the County of Cornwall , but in what particular
Part this Defendant hath not been able to find out and
discover although he hath caused several Inquiries to
be made at the Places where it was most likely to hear
And be informed of the said George Brown< no role > for that
Purpose And therefore this Defendant apprehends
that he shall be deprived of the Benefit of the Testimony
of the said George Brown< no role > in Case the Tryal of this Defendant
on any or either of the said Indictments shall come on at
this present Sessions And this Defendant further saith
that the hopes and verily believes he shall be able to
find out the said George Brown< no role > before the next Sessions
so as to be able to Subpona him and procure him to appear
as a Witness for this Defendant at the next Sessions
on the Tryal of the said Indictments
