Esqr . and Joseph Cox< no role > taken before
me this 30th. day of May 1766

Who being upon Oath severally day and first the said Joseph
Cox
< no role > for himself saith that on Whit Monday last a Person
who calls himself Capt Thornhill came to the house aprt.
Thomas Colemen< no role > Breeches maker at Chairing Criss, this
Informants Master, and sent this Informant. to the house
of Vincent Mathias< no role > Esqr. in Scotland Yard with a Bill
of Exchange now produced purporting to be the Bill of
Exchange of Jno. Johnston< no role > Capt. in the 24th. Regt. of Foot
dated Gibralter Apl. the 12th. 1766 for Twenty pounds in favour
of George Coote< no role > Esqr. upon the sd. Mr. Mathias and indorsed George
Coote
< no role > and the said James Megrick< no role > Esqr. for himself saith
that he hath seen the Bill of Exchange above described
that he is well acquainted in the hand writing of
Capt John Johnston< no role > of the 24th. Regmt. now at
Gibratler that he verily believes that the Name Jno
Johnston Signed to the aforesaid Bill of Exchange is not
of the hand writing of him the sd. Capt Johnston but that
the same is false Forged and Counterfeited and published
by the said Thornhill with Intent to Defraud
