Southwark

An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish of Saint Thomas within
the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the twenty fifth day of July in the thirty fourth year of the reign of
our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith
and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough
of Southwark on view of the body of John Chrispin< no role > [..] here lying dead by the oath of Thomas Hooper< no role > William
Howell Philip Windsor Decimas Hayward< no role > James High< no role > William Mackey< no role > David March< no role > John Lee< no role > Luke
Cannon John Gilbert< no role > William Jagg James Dunn< no role > and Richard Girdley good and lawful men of the Borough
of Southwark aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the
King when how and in what manner the said John Chrispin< no role > came to his death say upon their oath
that [..] on the twenty third day of July in the year aforesaid at the parish of Saint Olave within the Borough
of Southwark the said John Chrispin< no role > and one John Randall< no role > being working in a certain Crane lowering
a Case of Copper of great weight into the hold of a certain vessell lying off Haye's wharf there situate It
so happened that the said Crane by means of the weight of the said case of Copper went round with
great velocity by reason whereof the said John Chrispin< no role > was violently thrown about in and against
the said Grand and thereby then and there accidentally casually and by misfortune received several
mortal wounds and bruises in and upon his head and face and his right leg of which said mortal wounds
and bruises the said John Chrispin< no role > as well at the said parish of Saint as also at the said parish of
Saint Thomas within the Borough of Southwark did languish and languishing did live On which said
twenty third day of July in the year aforesaid at the parish last aforesaid within the Borough of Southwark
aforesaid the said John Chrispin< no role > of the said mortal wounds and bruises did die And so the Jurors
aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do say that the said John Chrispin< no role > in manner and by the means
aforesaid accidentally casually and by misfortune came to his death and not otherwise In Witness
whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Thomas Hooper< no role > the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf
of himself and the rest of his fellow in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands
and seals the day year and place first abovewritten
