Deposition of Witnesses taken at
London that is to say, at the Parish of
Allhallows Barking in the Ward of
Tower in London aforesaid the 5th day
of May 1792 on view of the body of
Joseph Brass< no role > now here lying Dead

John Warford< no role > of No. 6 little Ormond yard Saint George
the Martyr Queen Square in the County of Middlesex
[..] Excise Watchman maketh Oath that about the hour
of twelve in the Night of [..] day last Dept. saw the
deced on Brewers Quay in the parish of Allhallows
Barking that he was a Custom house Watchman
that he appeared very much agitated and struck a Table
on the Key with his Stick and made a great Noise Dept
remonstrated with the deced on his making such a Noise
and asked him what was the matter the deced sayed he
had been drunk for three days and three Nights and
could not get himself sober Dept. told the deced he ought
to sleep [..] and drink less and then he would got sober
but Whether the deced was then intoxicated Dept. cannot
say having never known him before that in about ten
Minutes after, One of the Surveyors of the Customs came on the
Quay and asked if all was well the deced answered yes
very rationally that immediately after the Surveyor went
away and Dept. went on his Duty on board a Craft laying
alongside the said Quay leaving the deced on the Quay
that about two OClock Dept. heard a very un common Noise
of some person and lookinglookup from the Craft he was in [..]
he hallowed out who is there but reced no answer that
in about ten Minutes after Dept. heard something fall
into the Water between the Vessel Dept. was in and the Key
Dept. immediately went upon Deck and some person cryed
out for help saying a Man is in the Water Dept. looked
into the Water between the Craft he was in & the Key and
saw something struggling in the Water Dept. immediately
have a Rope into the Water-that a person came and went
down a Ladder (which Dept. placed alongside the craft for that
[..] ) and caught hold of the deced and kept him above
Water that as soon as possible Dept. and some other persons
got the deced into the Craft. that there were very little
