Southwark


Deposition of Witnesses taken at the Parish
of Saint John within the Borough of Southwark
in the County of Surrey the 3d day of May
1792 on view of the body of David Thomas< no role >
now here lying Dead

Hugh Pugh< no role > a Mariner belonging to the Hoop the Eleanor
whereof Robert Lloyd< no role > is Master belonging to Holy head in
North Wales now lying [..] in the River Thames at the Lime
Riln Chain maketh Oath that between the hours of twelve and
one of Tuesday last Dept. being on the Deck of the said Vessel
heard some thing fall into the water andon looking [..] he
saw
at the same time one Thomas Parry< no role > a Mariner belonging
to said Vessel sayed Oh Lord the Boy in overboard meaning
the deced David Thomas< no role > a Lad about sixteen or Seventeen
Years of Age belonging to said Vessel Dept. immediately
jumped into a Boat alongside the Vessel to Try to save the
deced and on going into the Boat Dept. saw there of the hands
if the deced just above the water. but before Dept. could
get near the deced he sunk under the water-that the side
ran down the River very strong and Dept. saw as more of
The deced until this afternoon when he saw him lying dead
in the Bone house of Saint Johns Parish that no person
was near the deced at the time he fell overboard
