An Inquisition indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London, that
is to say, at the precinct of Bridewell Hospital in the ward of Farringdon without in
London aforesaid on the Eleventh day of July in the thirty second Year of the Reign of
our Sovereign Lord George the third King of Great Britain Etc. Before Thomas Shelton< no role >
Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of
Southwark on view of the Body of Philip Brooks< no role > now here lying dead by the Oath of
Roger Owen< no role > , Edward Owen< no role > , John Harris< no role > , George Sanderson< no role > , Robert Smart< no role > , Robert Hatton< no role >
George Gerrard< no role > , Peter Portio< no role > , Ralph Young< no role > , James Hotchkiss< no role > , George Ashton< no role > and Richard
Murrell good< no role > and lawful Men of the City of London aforesaid who being now here
duly chosen sworn and charged to Inquire for our said Lord the King when how and
in what manner the said Philip Brooks< no role > came to his death say upon their Oath that
the said Philip Brooks< no role > on the Ninth day of July in the Year aforesaid Accidentally
casually and by misfortune fell into the River Thames and in and with the Waters
of the said River was then and there Suffocated and drowned Of which said Suffocation
and Drowning he the said Philip Brooks< no role > did then and there die And so the Jurors
aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said Philip Brook< no role > in manner
and by the means aforesaid casually and by misfortune was accidentally Drowned
In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Roger Owen< no role > the foreman
of the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in their presence
have to this Inquisition set their hands and Seals the day Year and place first above
written
