An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the Parish of Saint Olave
within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the Sixth day of July in the thirty Second
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France
and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Corner of
our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of
John Bennett< no role > now here lying dead by the Oath of Stacey Cleak< no role > , Samuel Davis< no role > , Thomas Gryer,
John Clifford< no role > , Samuel Watkins< no role > , Edward Keeper< no role > , Thomas Cave< no role > , Joseph Cross< no role > , Richard Ham< no role > , John
Winter, John Sudberry< no role > , James Bowler< no role > and Benjamin Hort< no role > , good and lawful man of the
Parish aforesaid who being now here duly Chosen Sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord
the King when how and in what manner the said John Bennett< no role > came to his death say upon
their Oath that the said John Bennett< no role > on the fifth day of July in the Year aforesaid being a
Mariner of and belonging and in and on board of a certain Vessel called the Mermaid aid lying in
the River Thames and being employed on the Maintop Gallant yard of the said Vessel It so
happened that the said John Bennett< no role > accidentally Casually and ly Misfortune fell from and off
the said yard of the said Vessel into an upon a certain Cable lying upon the Deck of a Certain other Vessell
then lying along side of the said first mentioned Vessell called the Mermaid by means
whereof he the said John Bennett< no role > did then and there receive one Mortal Wound
he the said John Bennett< no role > did then and there die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said John Bennett< no role > in manner and by the Means aforesaid casually and by misfortune
was accidentally killed In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Stacy
Cleak the foreman of the said Jurors on Behalf of him and the rest of his fellows in their presence
have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the day Year and place first above Written
