Bethlem Hospital Governors
has Petition to the Lord Mayor
Alderman V Common [..]
appointed of and paid Treasure
and [..] Presented to the
Common Council

Upon Reading a Memorial in the words and figures following
Vizt. To the Right Honorable the Lord Mayor Alderman and
Commons of the City of London in Common Council assembled The
Memorial and Representation of the Mayor and Commonally and
Citizens of the City of London Masters Guardians and Governors of
the House and Hospital called Bethlem situate without and
near to Bishopsgate of the said City of London Shaveth That
at a Court holden at Bridewell Hospital 8th. May 1674 for
William Turner< no role > Knight and Alderman President of the said
Hospital and Sir Thomas Davies< no role > Knight and Alderman were
desired to acquaint the Lord and Court of Alderman
with the great necessity of new Building and removing the said
Hospital of Bethlem and to desire the direction and assistance
of his Lordship and that Court for an application to his
Majesty for his leave and approbation there in and that the
Committee of the City Lands might be desired from that Court
to consider of view and appoint some fit place Grantable by
the City Where on to Build the said Hospital House for Health
and Air and the said Sir Thomas Davies< no role > Sir William Warren< no role >
and Sir William Bolton< no role > Knights with Mr. Treasurer Ducame
and seven others of the Governors and all or any other of the said
Governors of the said Hospital as could and would were
desired to join with and accompany the Committee for the City
Lands in that behalf. That at another Court holden at the said
Hospital of Bridewell 16th. May 1674 the said Sir William
Turner
< no role > Knight and Alderman intimated that he had acquainted
the Lord Mayor and Court of Alderman of the necessity of new
Building the said Hospital House and the desire of the Governors
to new Build the same more large and in a more convenient place
than the old House then was and to Petition his Majesty for
leave to remove the same old House-His Lordship and the
Court of Alderman had well approved thereof and therefore It
was Ordered that the Petition to his Majesty there lately read.
and approved of should be fairly Willen and care was to be taken
of presenting the same to his Majesty That at another Court
