of that Date
Esquire

Esqr
.
Clerk
to this Hospital Examine the Plans Acts of Parliament
Charters Deeds and Evidences relating to the said Premises and
to adjust and Pcint out to the said Committees proper Terms for
an Accommodation to take place between the City and Hospital
touching the Alterations of Property necessary to form a Street from
Fleet Street
to the New Bridge if the same should be approved by this
Committee and the Court And we further Certify that the said
John Paterson< no role >
and John Woodhouse< no role >
have this Day severally signed
a Report directed to the said Committees respectively in the Words
and Figures following (Mutatis Mutandis) To the Worshipful,
Committee of Bridewell Hospital
Gentlemen-Agreeable to your
Desire I have had several Meetings with Mr. Paterson on the part of
the Worshipful the Committee for Building and Compleating the New
Bridge at Black Fryars
in Order to adjust the proper Terms for an
Accommodation between you and them in respect of the Alterations
of Property necessary for affecting the Proposed New Street from Fleet
Street
to the New Bridge
Our first Inquiry was to Ascertain if Possible the respective
Properties of the City, the Hospital, and the Publick, in the
Buildings and Grounds to be Affected by the said Alterations and
for that purpose we perused several Ancient Plans, Acts of
Parliament, Charters, Leases and other Authentic Documents to
direct our Judgment, but found the Subject so Complicated as to
under it extrimely difficult if not Impracticable to make a Minute
and Critical decision as to the legal Right And therefore considering
that the Matter in Question is of a Publick Nature and to be adjusted
between two great and respectable Bodies so nearby allied We are
of Opinion it is proper to proceed in a liberal manner And that the
following general Principals ought to be adopted as the Ground work
for an Accommodation
First
That the Land or Ground which is now open and paved between
the North Wing of the Hospital and Bride Lane
containing by
Admeasurement 1341 Superficial Feet and abutting Southson the
wing of the said Hospital from East to West 55 Feet 8 Inches
West on other Ground the property of the said Hospital 30 Feet
6 Inches, North on Bride Lane
57 Feet 6 Inches and East on the
Ground formerly the Wharf or Key on the West side of Fleet Ditch
aforesaid 22 Feet, shall be considered as Street or Highway
belonging to the Publick and be continued such And that the
residue of the said Ground towards the West shall be Considered
as the Private property of the Mayor Commonalty and Citizens of
the City of London governors
of the Possessions Revenues and Goods
of the said Hospital and as such shall be held and Enjoyed by them
& their Successors for Ever
Second.
That the Ground or Soil of that part of the Street which list
along the East side of the Hospital
from Bride Lane
aforesaid to
the North End of Bridewell Dock and which formerly made one
Side of Fleet Ditch
shall be considered as Street or Highway belonging
