Upon Reading the Humble Petition of

. Setting forth That the Petitioner in 1756
being by Virtue of an Assignment possessed of a Lease of 5 Houses at
Charing Cross
part of the Possessions of Bethlem Hospital
Three Years
were then Unexpired applied to take a further Lease for the Term of
31 years upon Presumption and a full Assurance of Mr. Strickland
Holden the them Surveyor of the said Hospital that the same would
Stand upon a thorough Repair And the said Strickland Holden
having Estimated the Moneys to be laid out in such Repairs at
£700 & no more the Petitioner thereupon agreed to take the said
Premises for 31 Years at the Rent of £80 P Ann clear of all Taxes
That when the Petitioner came to break open the said Houses he found
the Substantial Parts so Ruinous and bad that it was impossible to
Repair them which the Surveyor upon a Review was satisfied of
& therefore the Petitioner thought it more for the advantage of the
Hospital to Rebuild the said Houses not doubting but when he had
done the Hospital would Grant him an Additional Term to make
his first Term equal to a Building Lease That the Petitioner had
laid out upwards of £3300 in Rebuilding 5 New Substantial Brick
