Surveyors Report

And Whereas Mr. Samuel Williams< no role > Surveyor of these Hospitals
made his Report in Writing bearing Date the 24th. Day of July 1768
to the Effect following.

In Pursuance of an Order of the Worshipful the Committee of
Bridewell Hospital bearing Date the 3d. Day of May last whereby
I am directed to report My Opinion touching the Proposal annexed
to an Order of the Worshipful Committee of Common Council for
Building a Bridge from Black Friars Etc bearing Date the 3d. Day
of the same May and the Plan therein mentioned and referred to
with all Facts and Circumstances materially relating thereto fully
and at large.

I humbly Certify that it appears by a Plot or Map proved &
Established in a Suit depending in the High Court of Chancery Between
The Right Honble Richd. Earl of Dorset and others and the Mayor
Commonalty & Citizens of the City of London governors of the Possessions
Revenues & Goods of Hospitals of Edward King of England the Sixth
Christ Bridewell and St. Thomas the Apostle so long ago as 1672 and
by other Evidence among the Records belonging to the sd. Hospital-

That Bridewell Dock (Exclusive of the New Cut made on the
East side thereof pursuant to the Act of 22d. Car. 2d.) and all the Lands
on the West side thereof between the Hospital and the River Thames
whether Covered with Buildings or vacant have immemorially
been and now are part of the Property & Possessions of the sd. Hospital
And Therefore I am of Opinion that no part of the Lands mentioned
or contained in the Plan and Proposal above mentioned (Except. 1104 superfl.
Feet part of the said New Cut lying on the East side of the sd. Dock
coloured Yellow & specified in the said Plan) ought to be Estimated
or Considered as belonging to the City or paid for by the sd. Hospital
And as to the said 1104 Superficial Feet, I am of Opinion that £206
(at which the same is valued by the said Surveyor) is a reasonable
Price to be paid by the said Hospital

And I further humbly Certify That if the Worshipful the
Bridge Committee shall be pleased to approve the Scheme for forming
the New Street in a strait Line from the Bridge Foot into Fleet Street
and to raise the Surface thereof as high as the Top of the Brick Work
