Morleir Corns. Expelled


Upon Reading a Report from the Comittee of this House
dated the 4th. day of Decr. 1755 under the hands of John Wallington< no role > Esq

This Comittee upon Enquiry having found that Cornelius Morleir< no role >
Velvet Weaver one of the Artsmasters has taken no manner of Care of his
Apprentices But when they have done their Task Work Suffers them to go where
they Please and his doors to be Open to receive them at all hours in the Hight by which
means they have fallen into Bad Company & most of 'em have behaved very
Disorderly & been frequently in Riots, for which two of 'em were lately Corrected in
the presence of the rest of the Apprentices & turn'd out of the Hospital by Order of
Court & a third was in the like manner Corrected and sent home to himAnd to show
his Total disregard to the behaviour or welfare of his Apprentices, The sd.
Morleir Employs one John Hughes< no role > a fellow of an Inflamous Character as his
Journeyman who was his Apprentice & has Inticed his Apprentices & many others in
the Hospital into Bad Company and harboured them at Nights in his Lodgings in
a Scandalons houseAnd this Morleir has done tho. Hughes behaved so ill to him
that he wou'd not give him a Character to Obtain his Freedom & in defiance of the
Laws of the City he has employed him in the City near 3 Years knowing him not
to be a Freeman for which reasons The Comittee are of Opinion The sd. Cornelious
Morleir is not a fit Person to be an Artsmaster & shou'd be Expelled the House
All which is Nevertheless Submitted to the Judgment of the CourtThis
Court having duly Weighed & consider'd the same Doth Unanimously Agree with
the Comittee And Order that the sd. Cornelius Morleir be Expelled
And he is hereby Expelled And Order'd forthwith to Quit his
Appartments in this Hospital.

Alsop Mr. Aldr. to Settle his Accots.

Pays of Great Chest & Pears box to Mr. Trear


Mr. Alderman Alsop is desired to Settle his Accounts & pay the
Ballance of Cash in his hands & deliver the Keys of the Great Chest and
Poors box to Mr. Treasurer
