Upon Reading the humble Petition of Obadiah West< no role > Velvet Weaver
one of the Artsmasters of Bridewell Hospital as follows ViztThat the
Petitioner has been 40 years an Artsmaster is the Oldest now in the
Hospital & had the favor of being Admitted on the decease of his Father who
had likewise been an Artsmaster 18 YearsThat the Petitioner has
brought up a Great Number of Apprentices who Served him well and
by the Governors Orders had Mr. Locks Gift towards their Assitance
in Carrying on their Trade with they did with Success, But of late Years be
has happen'd to have untoward Boys who Served him ill & Neglected
& Spoild his Work to his great Prejudice, And by other Misfortunes in
Trade he is reduced & now a Prisoner in Ludgate & he being 70 years
of Age & his wife Older & both of em' very Infirm They are not Capable
of getting a livelyhoodAnd praying the Governors will be pleased to
grant their Old Servant such relief in his Distress'd Circumstances as
to their Great Goodness shall seem meetOrder'd that the sd. Petition
be Consider'd at the next Court.

Mr. Treasurer Acquainted the Court He had received a letter from
Philip Jackson< no role > Esqr . dated 3d. Febry 1756 which he deliverd to the Clerk
and was read as follows ViztSr. Being Executor to the Will of
John Phillipps< no role > Esqr. late a Governor of your Hospital, I think
proper to Acquaint you that He has Order'd £300 to be paid to you
for the Advancement of the Charity which I shall take Care to discharge
in due timeI beg the favour of you to Communicate this
to the Governors.

to the Trear for time being}


Ordered That Mrs. Sarah Gilly< no role > (Admrix of Edwd. Holloway< no role > Esqr . deced late
Trear of these Hospitals) be desired to Assign to John Wallington< no role > Esq now Trear
and to the Trear of these Hospitals for the time being In Trust for the use of
the Incurable Lunatick Patients at Bethlem Hospital two MemdumNotes
or Debentures for Orphan Stock Standing in the Names of Humphry Parsons< no role > Esqr
and the sd. Mr. Holloway who was the Survivor Vizt. one for £2774..19
& the other for £2811 making together £2800 & all the Interest due thereon

James Woodroffe< no role > (Apprentice to James Smith< no role > ) having cut off the
Badge (No.12) which was fix't on his Doublet, was on the 22d. day of Janry
last set to Work at the Hemp block till the then next Court, and being now brought
up Seemed very Sorry for his Offence & upon his Knees begged Pardon of The Court
& of his Master & Promised to behave very Orderly & Diligently for the future
And upon the Earnest intercession of his Mother who came up from Bath on this
Occasioin only. and at his Masters request, and haveing been 2 Months at the block
He was Severely Reprimanded by The President & Order'd Home with his Master,
