<p n="384">And as to that part of the Order which relates to the Inquirey after the breath<lb></lb>
of the orders of the House and by whom wee humbly Certify as followeth<lb></lb>
That wee Read over the abstract of orders and inquired how every one<lb></lb>
was kept or broken, And some of us haveing Observed great animosities<lb></lb>
between the <rs type="occupation" id="LMTHMG55301_occ214">Chirurgeons</rs>

; and the Comittee hearing Complaints against them<lb></lb>
they did accuse one another and wee Spent Several Comittees in hearing them<lb></lb>
and their Witnesses, and after hearing all they could say, Wee were of Opinion<lb></lb>
That every of the Four Surgeons Vizt. Mr: Browne, Mr. Elton, and Mr.<lb></lb>
Court, principll Surgeons, and Mr. Pepper Assistant surgeon are guilty of<lb></lb>
the breath of the Orders and neglect of their duty to the great prejudice of the<lb></lb>
patients And wee humbly conceive that one cheife cause thereof has been<lb></lb>
Occationed by the methods by which they came into their places every one of them<lb></lb>
haveing been chosen or placed either with regard to Recomendatory Letters<lb></lb>
or by Mandamus as in the time when Governed by Comissioners which<lb></lb>
has made some of them say often That they were not Chose by the Governors.<lb></lb>
and therefore were not to obey them or to that Effect, And for the prevencon<lb></lb>
of the Breach of the Orders concerning Consultacons and Extraordinary<lb></lb>
Operacons which is of so great Moment to the patients Wee humbly<lb></lb>
propose that for the Future all the Surgeons goe together every monday<lb></lb>
and Thursday mornings from Ward to Ward and begin to dresse their respecting<lb></lb>
patients in each ward att one and the same time, and so goe from one Ward<lb></lb>
to another till all be dressed in the presence of all the Surgeons (and the Doctor<lb></lb>
if he preaseth) by which, Extraordinary Cases will be discovered to all of them</p>

To the intent that the house may be supplyed as alwaies it was formerly<lb></lb>
with able Surgeons, That none be admitted a Surgeon but such as have been<lb></lb>
Examined and approved by the Company of Surgeons according to Law</p>

That none be permitted to Dresse for or under any Surgeons in this house<lb></lb>
but such as are bound apprentices att Surgeons Hall for a terme of Seaven<lb></lb>
years att Least and have served two years of that terme unlesse in presense<lb></lb>
of his Master and Except such as shall be approved by the Comittee of<lb></lb>
Governors of the house for the time being</p>

Wee find also that the Order for Visitting the sick hath been Neglectee<lb></lb>
And therefore wee propose that the present Minister or Hospitaler be<lb></lb>
acquainted that it is Expected that it be exactly observed in time to come<lb></lb>
as being a most necessary part of his Office to Ex hort and comfort sick<lb></lb>
persons in the times of their greatest Extremities</p>

Wee find also that there has been a great and constant breach of the order<lb></lb>
against prophane swearing Etc. not only by patients but by some Officers<lb></lb>
whome wee have admonished and Charged to avoid it for time to come And<lb></lb>
it is desired that the takers in for the time being be putt in minde. to Wales<lb></lb>
Frequent inquiery about the breath of that Order that the name of God be<lb></lb>
not so profaned any more</p>

That it be an Oder for time to come, That noe patient have above a Quart<lb></lb>
a day of one or other, unless the Governors takers in, think fitt to encrease<lb></lb>
the allowance for the Three Sumer Months</p>

fitt it be Orderd That nontbut Two peny Dyetters be permitted to drink it, and that<lb></lb>
non be put upon the yd: score but such as are appointed by the Doctor</p>

Wee propose That the sisters be reproved for permitting patients to bright<lb></lb>
Strong Drinke; and for Exacting unreasonable rates of patients when they Inst<lb></lb>
come in for Earthen Ware, and also for Washing sheets, And that it be an<lb></lb>
as it has been the use that the patients at their first coming furnish themselves<lb></lb>
with Earthen ware and also that they pay for every washing of Marshall</p>
