What Persons shall be adjudged to deal more in other Goods than in distilld Liquors</p>

in their Construccon of this Exception in either of these Points & under<lb></lb>
Such Error Quarter Soldiers on Persons not liable. They & the Constables are<lb></lb>
lible to Actions, which is a great Discouragement, & often attended with delays<lb></lb>
and Inconveniences to the Soldiers who are to be Quartered, as well as to<lb></lb>
those who Quarter them.</p>

That in the next Act for Quartering Soldiers, The<lb></lb>

Other than & except the House or Houses of any <rs type="occupation" id="LMSMPS50198_occ20">Distillers</rs>

, who keep houses or Places<lb></lb>
of Distilling Brandy or Strong Waters, & have fix'd & Set up therein one or<lb></lb>
more Still or Stills capable of Distilling Gallons at least of Strong<lb></lb>
Waters at one time (or if thought more proper, who Distill therein<lb></lb>
every Year upon their own Account the Quantity of Gallons or<lb></lb>
more of such Strong Waters) And who do not suffer Tipling in their<lb></lb>
Shops or HousesAnd other than & Except the house of any Shop keeper<lb></lb>
whose principall Dealings shall be more in other Goods & Merchandizes<lb></lb>
than in Brandy & Strong Waters, who do not permit or suffer Tipling in his<lb></lb>
or their Shops or houses, and who shall have a Licence or Licences<lb></lb>
under the Hands & Seals or two or more Justices of the Peace of ye. County<lb></lb>
Citty or Liberty wherein he or they shall dwell or keep such Shops or houses<lb></lb>
for the Selling of such Liquors by Retail in such Shops or Houses<lb></lb>
And in noe other, and in no Private houses whatsoever Etc.</p>
<p n="87">It these Amendments are not thought proper,<obscured></obscured>
is desir'd That the Exception may be<lb></lb>
explain'd & more clearly worded, That the Justices may be better able to Judge<lb></lb>
where & on whom to Quarter the Soldiers, That the Constables may be incourag'd<lb></lb>
to do their Duty by the Security they will find in the Plain words of the Law, &<lb></lb>
That the Soldiers may be received into the Quarters appointed them, without<lb></lb>
the delays & difficulties, which at present attend them from the doubts & disputes<lb></lb>
about the true meaning of this Clause.</p>
<p n="88">These Observations & Amendments to the Exception in the Clause above menconed in the<lb></lb>
Act for Quartering of Soldiers, are directed by the Justices of Middlesex in their<lb></lb>
Quarter Sessions assembled at Hicks hall on the 12th. day of October 1721 to be<lb></lb>
