<p n="2378">Mr.. Evans's Brother in the mean time applied<lb></lb>
to several Friends to obtain a Pardon. - he came in a<lb></lb>
few Days and told me the only way to get a pardon<lb></lb>
would be to procure a Certificate of his Bad state of<lb></lb>
Health; - I then applied to the Governor to know how<lb></lb>
that could be obtained I told the Governor I was in-<lb></lb>
-formed by Evans Brother That a certificate of his ill<lb></lb>
state of Health would be the only means of his getting<lb></lb>
a Pardon, the Governor said he would Consult the<lb></lb>

and he had no Doubt but that it Could be done<lb></lb>
but that previous to the Doctors examining of him he<lb></lb>
Evans must prepare himself get ill before the Doctor<lb></lb>
came and desired me to go to Evans and inform <lb></lb>
as such I went to Evans I told Evans I had been<lb></lb>
with the Governor and that a Certificate of his ill<lb></lb>
state of Health would be obtained but that he must<lb></lb>
effect himself to be ill, or be ill, when the Doctor came<lb></lb>
in Order to obtain the certificate; - which he said he<lb></lb>
would do, I waited upon Mr.. Aris a Day or two<lb></lb>
afterwards, when Mr.. Aris gave me a Certificate to the<lb></lb>

perused it he said It would not do it was not<lb></lb>
worded strong enough; I took it back again to<lb></lb>
Mr.. Aris and told Mr.. Aris what Mr.. Estcourt had<lb></lb>
said, Mr.. Aris took the Certificate out of my Hand<lb></lb>
and said he would get it altered and worded strong<lb></lb>
enough which he did I took it again to the Stamp<lb></lb>
Office and there I left it with Mr.. Estcourt at that<lb></lb>
time and from that Certificate he obtained the<lb></lb>
permission of the Commissioners and from thence<lb></lb>
he obtained his Pardon from the King I did not<lb></lb>
give any thing to the Doctor Mr.. Aris told me the<lb></lb>

was a poor Man with a large Family but<lb></lb>
did not go any further he did not request me to<lb></lb>

thing; - I saw the Doctor at the Governors house<lb></lb>
but I had no Conversation with him about the<lb></lb>
Certificate; - the first Certificate was - Certifying<lb></lb>
his bad state of health but I cannot charge my</p>
