addressed to him in like manner Vizt.</p>

<p n="941">Sir,</p>
<p n="942">The Acts of the 26th. & 30th. of his present Majesty,<lb></lb>
by which We are appointed Commissioners for enquiring into the state<lb></lb>
and condition of the Woods Forests and Land Revenues of the Crown,<lb></lb>
having, among other Objects, enjoined Us to suggest such Measures" for<lb></lb>
"the protection, increase and supply of Timber, on the Forests, Chases and<lb></lb>
"other Lands of the Crown, for the use of the Royal Navy." as We shall<lb></lb>
think best calculated for that purpose, together with such Observations<lb></lb>
as may occur to Us, it becomes our Duty to endeavour to obtain the<lb></lb>
best Information We can relative to the General state of the Woods<lb></lb>
and Timber in this Kingdom and the Increase or decrease of the<lb></lb>
Stock of Timber fit for the use of the Navy with which We conceive<lb></lb>
the Object abovementioned to be necessarily connected and apprehending<lb></lb>
that these Subjects would naturally attract the notice of Gentlemen of<lb></lb>
Landed Property in those parts of the Country in which they reside <lb></lb>
or which have fallen under their Observation; We have thought it<lb></lb>
proper to address this Letter to you, to request that you will be<lb></lb>
pleased to communicate the Questions contained in the inclosed Paper<lb></lb>
to the Gentlemen in the Commission of the Peace in Quarter Session<lb></lb>
assembled, and to favor Us with such Information in answer to those<lb></lb>
Questions, as the result of their collective Opinions, or those of the<lb></lb>
Majority of them, may enable you to communicate.</p>
