<p n="640">That Witness found two Men fighting Vizt. Roberts and Moore<lb></lb>
in the Night time that he parted them and on his return found them<lb></lb>
fighting again, that he took and put them both in <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55610_geo466">New Prison</rs>

the Morning brought them before Mr Friquet, thinks they were sent<lb></lb>
down to the Prison for want of Surety - Yardley informed Witness that<lb></lb>
Mr Blackborow wanted to speak to him - Mr Blackborow and Mr.<lb></lb>
Clare were present - Mr Blackborow asked by what Authority they sent<lb></lb>
them to Gaol said "at his Peril he ever sent Persons to Gaol, as he had<lb></lb>
a place to put them in" Witness said he thought it unsafe, and that<lb></lb>
sending two fighting Men to the same Cage would only offer an opportunity<lb></lb>
for the strongest to kill the weakest; Mr Blackborow said, I will shew you<lb></lb>
what I will do; Mr Blackborow went to the Gaol and the Witness within<lb></lb>
an hour saw them out, when they came out, they hallooed him and said<lb></lb>
Your Master is come home, That Witness went to the Gaoler to know<lb></lb>
how they came out, who answered that Mr Blackborow had turned them out.</p>
<p n="641">That Witness seeing the Enmity which Mr Blackborow had<lb></lb>
against him declined his Duty as the general Character of Constable<lb></lb>
he feared would not be a defence, said he was deferred by Mr.<lb></lb>
Blackborow's Threats "That it was at his Peril if he sent any Persons to<lb></lb>
Gaol and that if he went on he would look to his Condition and<lb></lb>
appeared very angry, Could not till if Roberts or Moore or either of them<lb></lb>
were Mr Blackborow's Tenants, but believes they were Undertenants upon<lb></lb>
his Estate Mr Blackborow said to Witness that Turnell and Witness<lb></lb>
had conspired against him in his Rents, and that he would prosecute<lb></lb>
them for a Conspiracy, and that he would lay them on thick, Witness<lb></lb>
said he would give Ten Guineas to see it brought on in a Court as he<lb></lb>
Mr Blackborow supported these Girls.</p>

by Committee and Sworn in at Court Leet, said that the Constables have<lb></lb>
been threatened by Mr Blackborow that if any of his Tenants were taken up<lb></lb>
he would defend them. That he had taken up a reputed Thief on the<lb></lb>
20th. June he had Information that she was at a Door and the Tenant.</p>
