and Saith that on or about the Sixteenth day of August now last past<lb></lb>
He took an Old Licenced Alehouse commonly called or known by the<lb></lb>
Name or Sign of the Turks Head situate in <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55610_geo461">Turnmill Street</rs>

in their General Meeting for granting of Licences to<lb></lb>

within the said division assembled to have the Licence to the<lb></lb>
said House renewed, when, as this Deponent has been informed and<lb></lb>
believes, upon Account of the Old Licence having been three times assigned<lb></lb>
during the last Year the renewal was postponed until the Adjournment<lb></lb>
day, which was fixed for Wednesday the 19th. day of the same Month, That<lb></lb>
He this Deponent attended on such adjournment day, but was not call'd<lb></lb>
in before the Magistrates, and finding himself at a Loss how to act he<lb></lb>
applied to <rs type="persName" id="LMSMGO55610_n630-2">William Blackborow</rs>

one of the Magistrates of the said<lb></lb>
Division to assist him, That the said Mr Blackborow undertook to get the<lb></lb>
said Licence renewed and give directions to the Clerks who superintend<lb></lb>
such Licencing business to prepare a New Licence and which was prepared<lb></lb>
accordingly and on Monday the first day of this Instant October he this<lb></lb>
deponent attended at the Office of the said Mr Blackborow with his<lb></lb>
Surety and entered into the usual Recognizance, and also paid the<lb></lb>
usual and customary Fees to the Clerks for such Licence And this<lb></lb>
deponent further Saith that on the day following having occasion to consult<lb></lb>
the said Mr Blackborow upon some other Business he attended at his House<lb></lb>
for that purpose, and after such Business was finished and he this deponent<lb></lb>
was retiring he was called back again by the said Mr Blackborow who<lb></lb>
said "Mr Read there must be a Complaint for your Licence" to which this<lb></lb>
deponent answered "that he had paid the Fees." upon which the said Mr.<lb></lb>
Blackborow replied "I have nothing to do with that." this deponent then<lb></lb>
asked the said Mr Blackborow what the Complaint was to be who<lb></lb>
directly answered "A Guinea." and this Deponent immediately gave the<lb></lb>
said Mr Blackborow the said Guinea.</p>
