<p n="831">That Your petitioner in January 1775 was appointed<lb></lb>

was allowed the Yearly Sum of £60 for his attendance & Medicines<lb></lb>
& that notwithstanding Your petitioner found the trouble and Expence<lb></lb>
from the number of the Sick exceeded his Expectation Yet her<lb></lb>
Conscientiously continued to discharge the duty of the Office to the<lb></lb>
utmost of his Power</p>
<p n="832">That soon after an Act of parliament passed by which<lb></lb>
the punishment of Convicts sentenced to Transportation was changed<lb></lb>
to that of Imprisonment in Consequence of which Your petitioner has<lb></lb>
had not only the Care of those he was first appointed to attend but<lb></lb>
also of all those who from Session to Session have been Sentenced<lb></lb>
to Imprisonment in the said Jails Many of whom come in diseased<lb></lb>
and frequently continuce so from their Poverty and long Confinement<lb></lb>
not to mention the many infected prisoners who from time to time are<lb></lb>
sent to remain in these Jails from <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55607_geo829">Newgate</rs>

<p n="833">That as the trouble and Expence brought upon Your<lb></lb>
Petitioner by this great Encrease of prisoners greatly exceeds what<lb></lb>
would arise from an equal number of others owing to their<lb></lb>
complicated distress under a long Confinement he hopes that this<lb></lb>
Court will have the goodness to take his Case into Consideration and<lb></lb>
afford him such relief as shall be deemed Just and reasonable</p>
