A Appears in Evidence to this Court that Henry the 8th. late King<lb></lb>
of England by Charter bearing date the 13th. day of January in the 38th.<lb></lb>
Year of his Reign did amongst other things Grant to these Mayor and<lb></lb>
Commons and Citizens of the City of London All the late Hospital of St.<lb></lb>
Bartholomews in West Smithfield next London and all other things whatsor.<lb></lb>
to the said Hospital appertaining or belonging And also all the Seik Compass<lb></lb>
Cricuit and Precinct & Close of the said late Hospital And by his sd<lb></lb>
Charter did Grant to the said Mayor and Commons and Citizens Lanes<lb></lb>
Houses Gardens Rents Reversions & Hereditaments amounting to a<lb></lb>
considerable Value To hold and Enjoy the same for ever To their own<lb></lb>
proper use and behalf And there by Directed that the said late Hospital<lb></lb>
of Bartholomews shod. thereafter be a place & House for the Poor there to<lb></lb>
be Ordained and should be called the house of the poor in the Smithfield next<lb></lb>
London of the foundation of King Henry the 8th. It appears that ever since<lb></lb>
the said Grant the sd Hospital has been made use of for the relief of<gap reason="illegible"></gap>
