That, in the reform of human nature much may be done<lb></lb>
not only by reward and consuragement, but also by economy<lb></lb>
and gradations of diet, upon the Plan adopted in Dorchester<lb></lb>
Gaol, and House of Correction, where those who do not evidence<lb></lb>
a Willingness to work, have an inferior degree of food, and<lb></lb>
recommodation, and thos whose work if profitable, receive<lb></lb>
better diet and increased comfort in proportion to their<lb></lb>
exertions and industry.That for the particulars of improved<lb></lb>
economy with respect to diet in this Country, your Commitee<lb></lb>
begs leave to refer the Court to the Reports of the Society for<lb></lb>
bettering the condition of the Poor, from which it will appear<lb></lb>
that a very great saving may be made in that respect.</p>

That, considerable effect may be produced by apparent<lb></lb>
and real nextness in every object around, for which purpose<lb></lb>
your Committee recommends in addition to Personal and<lb></lb>
Domestic Cleanliness, the frequent and periodical White-<lb></lb>
washing of all the Apartments of Bridewell, as the means<lb></lb>
of induring and confirming habits of cleanliness, and<lb></lb>
decency in the Persons employed there; and (your Committee<lb></lb>
thinks itself justified in adding,) consequent habit of<lb></lb>
Morality and Industry.</p>
<p n="3436">That your Commitee is of Opinion that the providing<lb></lb>
for the several Persons who have been stated to be the<lb></lb>
original objects of this Hospital, was the condition of the<lb></lb>
Grant of Bridewell House, and it's Estates and Revenues,<lb></lb>
and that (except so far as <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20210_geo377">the change</rs>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20210_geo377" type="placeName" value="the change"></interp>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20210_geo377" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
of times and manners<lb></lb>
may have rendered any of the objects of present in applicable)<lb></lb>
the Corporation is bound to apply their Revenues for the<lb></lb>
benefit and Reform of the three discriptions of Persons<lb></lb>
abovementioned in proportion to their necessities and<lb></lb>
