<p n="504">Whereupon the Committee had appointed <rs type="persName" id="BBBRMG20210_n504-1">John Gearing</rs>

to that place (during the pleasure of the<lb></lb>
Court) with a Salary of 18s. a week that he be allowed two Rooms for his Apartments<lb></lb>
that he be not permitted to follow any other employment that he reside constantly in<lb></lb>
the Hospital and give up the whole of his time to the superintendance of the Prisoners<lb></lb>
and that he shall not receive any Fee emolument or profit whatever over and above<lb></lb>
his Weekly Wages.</p>
<p n="505">That the Committee had taken into consideration the reference from the General Court<lb></lb>
respecting the Artsmasters and Apprentices and having called in the several<lb></lb>
Artsmasters they were informed the Court had resolved upon an alteration in the<lb></lb>
institution and that their premises should be resumed by the Hospital and the<lb></lb>
Artsmasters were desired to be prepared with their answers against the next Committee<lb></lb>
as to the terms on which they were willing to quit their apartments at Midsummer<lb></lb>
next taking their Apprentices with them.</p>
<p n="506">And that the Committee were of opinion that a written notice should be sent to each of the<lb></lb>
Artsmasters to acquaint them with the determination of the General Court to resume the<lb></lb>
whole of the premises now occupied by them and that the Committee should be<lb></lb>
empowered by the Court to treat with those Artsmasters whose Apartments might be<lb></lb>
immediately wanted for carrying into execution the proposed reform of the Prisons.</p>
<p n="507">The several Minutes of the Bethlem Committee of the 27th. September and the 22nd. November were<lb></lb>
then read whereby it appeared that after proper Advertizements they had contracted with<lb></lb>

to supply the Hospital with Beef Mutton Veal and Pork from Michaelmas<lb></lb>
next to Lady Day at 3 shillings per Stone his being the only offer.</p>
<p n="508">And that the Committee after much deliberation had unanimously resolved that it would be<lb></lb>
adviseable to repair the Hospital in a substantial manner and not to rebuild it: That in<lb></lb>
consequence of this resolution they had directed the Surveyor to make a particular Estimate<lb></lb>
of the several repairs necessary to be done that they had likewise ordered Mr. Alexander<lb></lb>
to send in the remainder of the Oak Boards agreeable to his contract and upon making<lb></lb>
an allowance for the defects in those now in th Hospital which have been refused by the<lb></lb>
Surveyor that the same be taken on account of the Hospital.</p>
<p n="509">The Minutes of the Committee of Auditors of the 26th. September were then read whereby it<lb></lb>
appeared that they had Audited the accounts of both Hospitals from Christmas last to<lb></lb>
that time and found the following sums were then in the hands of the several Officers Vizt</p>
