<p n="5847">Continued Thursday 25th. Novr. 1779.</p>
<p n="5848">until the Year 1683 it Appears that the governors were Chosen<lb></lb>
at General Courts or Committees holden at the said Hospitals<lb></lb>
respectively and that in the said Year 1683 and for several Years<lb></lb>
after the President treasurer governors and Officers of the said<lb></lb>
several Hospitals were from time to time Appointed by certain<lb></lb>
Commissioners Authorized by his late Majesty King Charles the<lb></lb>
second for the regulating of the said Hospitals and that as well<lb></lb>
in the last as in the Present Century down to the Present time the<lb></lb>
President treasurer governors and Officers of the said Hospitals<lb></lb>
have been from time to time Appointed at the Nomination and<lb></lb>
by the Choice of the respective governors of such several Hospitals at<lb></lb>
their Courts and Committees held in such Hospitals respectively</p>
<p n="5849">That originally the Persons Elected governors of the said<lb></lb>
Hospitals respectively when their Estates and Revenues were<lb></lb>
Inconsiderable and Benefactions and Bequests small, were but<lb></lb>
few and chiefly confined to the <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo3217">City of London</rs>

<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3217" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
But afterwards<lb></lb>
and for a great number of Years past it being found by Experience<lb></lb>
That increasing the number of governors and extending the nomination<lb></lb>
beyond the Walls of the City and to fit Persons though not free of the<lb></lb>
said City was exceedingly Advantageous to the respective Charities<lb></lb>
such Nominations have been made of Noblemen and other<lb></lb>
respectable Persons residing in other Parts as well as in the said<lb></lb>
<rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo3218">City of London</rs>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3218" type="placeName" value="City of London"></interp>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3218" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
and not free of the said City by which means the<lb></lb>
aforesaid several Charities have been very greatly increased and<lb></lb>
benefited and great care hath always been and is now taken that<lb></lb>
Persons of Character and ability likely to become Benefactors to the<lb></lb>
said respective Charities either by Donations in their Lives time<lb></lb>
or by Legacies on their deceases should be Nominated & Appointed<lb></lb>
as governors.</p>
<p n="5850">That soon after the Foundation of the said Hospitals and<lb></lb>
ever since separate and distinct Seals have been made and used<lb></lb>
Vizt. one for the Estates and Concerns of the Mayor Commonally<lb></lb>
and Citizens of <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo3219">London</rs>

in their Corporate Capacity and the other for<lb></lb>
