diligently Travailed for the good Provision of the Poor and every Sort of them &<lb></lb>
that by such means as neither the Child in his Infaney shall want virtuors<lb></lb>
Education and bringing up neither when the same shall grow unto full Age shall<lb></lb>
lack Matter whereon the same may virtuously Occupy himself in some good<lb></lb>
Occupation or Science Profitable to the Common Weal neither the sore nor Sick<lb></lb>
when they shall be Healed shall be Permitted nor Sufferrd to Wander as Vagabonds<lb></lb>
in the Common Weal but shall likewise be put to Labour and good and<lb></lb>
whole some Exercize and so to be made profitable Members of the same His<lb></lb>
Highness for the Advancement of that good work was Pleased to be the Patron<lb></lb>
of that Godly Foundation and by His Letters Patent in due form to be made<lb></lb>
to grant to the said Mayor Commonalty & Citizens and their Successors for Ever</p>
<p n="1184">All that his Graces Manor House and Place called <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo568">Bridewell</rs>

Appertenances and all Houses Edifices Buildings Gardens Void Grounds<lb></lb>
Profits and Commodities to the same belonging. And was also pleased to<lb></lb>
promise and Grant to the said Mayor Commonalty and Citizens That he by<lb></lb>
his Letters Patent would give and Grant to them and to their Successors for Ever<lb></lb>
All the Manors Messuages Lands Tenements & Hereditaments as well<lb></lb>
Spiritual as Temporal that did belong to the late Hospital of <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo569">the Savoy</rs>

Savoy Rents</rs>

(Except a Great Bell and one Little Bell and one<lb></lb>
Chalice for the Communion) And in Consideration thereof the said Mayor<lb></lb>
Commonalty & Citizens for themselves and their Successors did (among other<lb></lb>
Things) Covenant and Grant with the said King his Heirs and Successors<lb></lb>
that they should within as Convenient Time as might be set up & Erect within<lb></lb>
the said Manor House and Place of <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo572">Bridewell</rs>

as should have Strength to Labour<lb></lb>
in some Kind of Occupation as they should be most apt for And his said<lb></lb>
Majesty was pleased to give and Grant to the said Mayor Commonalty &<lb></lb>
Citizens and their Successors Licence and Authority to purchase Lands<lb></lb>
Tenements and Hereditaments for the Use of the said Several Hospitals to the<lb></lb>
Yearly Value of 4000 Marks over and above the Manors Lands Tenemts.<lb></lb>
& Hereditaments abovesaid And they Covenanted with the King that the<lb></lb>
whole Yearly Profits and Revenues of the said Manors Lands Tenements and<lb></lb>
Hereditaments Granted to them and their Successors and which they should<lb></lb>
purchase or should be given to them over and besides the Fees and Pensions<lb></lb>
to be paid to such Officers as should serve in any of the Hospitals and<lb></lb>
such lawful Charges as should be due and going out of the same should<lb></lb>
be Employed to the Relief and Sustentation of the Poor aforesaid. And the King<lb></lb>
also Granted to the said Mayor Commonalty & Citizens & their Successors That<lb></lb>
they should Ordain & make such wholsome and honest Ordinances Statutes and<lb></lb>
Rules for Good Governance of the Poor to be kept within the said House of<lb></lb>
