<p n="742">By the Calendar of the Prisoners there appeared to be</p>

<p n="744">The Committee take into<lb></lb>
Conson the Commitment<lb></lb>
to this Prison of Instants<lb></lb>
& Sick Persons incapable<lb></lb>
of Labour.It appearing to the Committee that great numbers of Sick Persons and<lb></lb>
Infants utterly incapable of labor are sent to this Prison by the<lb></lb>
Magistrates with an order that they remain here until there be room<lb></lb>
for them at the Hospitals of Saint Thomas or St. Bartholomew illl<lb></lb>
and that some of these unhappy wretches have lately died for want of<lb></lb>
proper conveniences and assistance which this House does not afford.</p>
<p n="745">And it appearing further to the Committee that such Commitments<lb></lb>
are not only contrary to the Intent and Spirit of the Charter but<lb></lb>
are also incompatible with the other objects of the Institution which<lb></lb>
most particulary requires that all persons committed to this House<lb></lb>
of correction be capable of and be employed in hard labor</p>
<p n="746">Recommendation to<lb></lb>
Court thereupon.Resolved that it be earnestly recommended to the Court that<lb></lb>
the foregoing circumstances be properly represented to the Lord Mayor<lb></lb>
and Court of Aldermen and that they be requested to confer with the<lb></lb>
Governors of the two Hospitals as to the necessity of adopting some<lb></lb>
measures for receiving immediately all such Patients as the Magistrates<lb></lb>
may think proper to send.</p>
