1117. WILLIAM HILL proceedingsdefend was indicted for stealing, on the 5th of September , 2 lbs. of tea, value 5s. , the property of the United Company of Merchants trading to the East Indies proceedingsvictim .

GEORGE ROBERT < no role > PAINT. I am a labourer in the Company's warehouse in Cutler-street . On the 4th of September I went into the cellar and found a large parcel of tea in a paper, between two piles of chests. I told the elder, and was set to watch; the next morning I saw the prisoner come with a great coat under his arm; he went immediately to the spot, took the tea out, and wrapped it up in his great coat - He began running, I told him it was useless to run for I knew him, and gave the alarm-Hardy stopped him. I took the bag of tea from him.

GEORGE HARDY. I am a commodore in the Company's service; I stopped the prisoner on the stairs, and found the tea upon him.

WILLIAM TRENCH < no role > . I am an elder in the Company's service; I told Paine to watch; the prisoner was brought to me - He said it was the first offence, and pleaded distress.

GUILTY . Aged 27.

Confined Six Months .
