Margaret Robins proceedingsdefend , of the Parish of St. Buttolph's Aldersgate , was indicted for feloniously stealing a Brass Drudging-box and Pepper-box, value 2 s. 10 d. The Goods of Samuel Maccaskery proceedingsvictim , the 24th of March last. The Prosecutor's Evidence depos'd, That the Prisoner came to the Prosecutor's Shop to sell a Pot, and took an Opportunity to take the Goods, and put them into her Pocket or Hole of a Pocket. Other Evidences depos'd, That after the Commission of the Fact, the Prisoner being ask'd why the did the Fact? She said she did not take the Things with any ill Design, but having bought a Pot of the Prosecutor, she reckoned that he had over reckoned her in the Weight of the Pot, and she took the Things to make her self amends. The Prisoner deny'd her having taken them with Intent to have stolen them, but having them in her Hand to look upon them, the Prosecutor came and charg'd her with stealing them. She call'd a great many to her Reputation. The Jury acquitted her.
