The Prosecutor deposed that as he was going over Smithfield to Long-Lane he met with the Prisoner, who wou'd scrape acquaintance with him, and said that she was born at the same Place his Master was Member of Parliament for; that he went into the Sign of the Boot a Publick House in Long-Lane about 9 at Night, and sat there in a Publick Room about a Quarter of an Hour; that the Prisoner follow'd him in, and afterward went with him so far as Red-Cross-Street , where there was a Crow'd about two Women that were fighting; that there she took the opportunity to pick his Pocket of the Money mention'd in the Indictment, but he feeling her Hand come out of his Pocket, followed and took her: When she was in Custody she offer'd to send for Money to make him Satisfaction if he'd take it and let her go. Mr. Morris deposed he knew her to be a common. Night-walker, and heard her say she'd send for a Person to give him the Money again. The Prisoner denied the taking his Money, and said that she met the Prosecutor in Smithfield, who ask'd her whether she would take him home to her Lodging, or go with him to a Publick House; that they staid together the drinking of one Pint, and as to her offering to send for Money for him, she did it rather than to have her Reputation stained. The Jury upon the whole acquitted her.
