Frances Jacobs proceedingsdefend , of the Parish of Christ Church , was indicted for feloniously stealing 26 Ounces of Gum Elamy, value 10 s. in the Shop of John Antrim proceedingsvictim , the 20th of May last. The Prosecutor's Servant deposed, That the Prisoner came into his Master's Shop under pretence of buying some Coco-Nuts, and took the Opportunity to steal the Gum Elamy. Another Evidence deposed, that the Prisoner brought it to his Shop to sell, and he suspecting she had stollen it, remembring he had seen such Gum lie in his Neighbour a Druggist's Window, and sending to enquire, the Prosecutor's Servant came and owned it. The Prisoner deny'd the Fact, pleading she used to deal in such things; and that finding it in her Handkerchief among some Chocolate, she did not know but that she had brought it from home. This did not avail but that the Jury found her Guilty to the Value of 4 s. 10 d. Transportation for 7 Years .
