Examination TextMary Carroll aged 16 years of age destitute of lodging upon her oath saith that she never was married [or] bound an apprentice, that she was turned out of doors this Day by her father-in-law George Heath who refuses to provide for her, that he now lives in and rents an house in Charing Cross in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, that he was married to her present mother Abigail Heath at May Fair Chapel about a year and a half ago as she has heard her mother say and further that her own father Miles Carroll in his lifetime lived in and rented a house in Charing Cross in the Parish aforesaid for the space of eight or nine years known by the sign of the Green Man and French Horn and there died at the yearly rent of 50 pounds per annum besides taxes, and also that she has heard her present mother [sic] say that she was married to her late father Miles Carroll deceased at the ffleet 18 years ago by whom she has six children living to wit this Examinant aged 16 years and upwards, John aged 13 years and upwards, Sarah aged 11 years and upwards, Charles aged 10 years and upwards, Ann aged five years and upwards, and [Jhotty] aged three years and upwards, all with this Examinant's mother except this Examinant who has never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parochial taxes or was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together or gained any other settlement since other than by her father. Sworn the 11th Day of March 1748 before James Fraser.
