Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Turner in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this seventh Day of April 1767. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 26 years of age and upwards, that she is the widow of John Turner (who died in the month of June in the year 1764), that she was on the eighth day of March last delivered at the workhouse aforesaid of a female bastard child (since christened Sarah) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Lynley late a Victualler at the sign of the Sun the corner of Broad Court in Long Acre (but is now absconded) did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said John Lynley is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Peter Planck, Thomas Balack.
