Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Middemist lodging with her father John Midlemist a Carpenter in Smiths Court in Great Windmill Street in the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westminster taken this 12th Day of February in the year 1783. This Examinant on her oath saith that James Midlemist, this Examinant's brother who is absconded, was bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to Mr Crispel a working Silver Smith in that part of Whitcombe Street which is in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and there served his said Master for the space of four years, and then he the said James Midlemist inlisted as a soldier, that he the said James Midlemist never was assigned to or served any other Person with the said Mr Crispel's approbation or consent, that he the said James Midlemist never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since he quitted the said Mr Crispel's service to this Examinant's knowledge, that he the said James Midlemist was married to his present wife Rachael at the Parish Church of St. James aforesaid near four years ago (who is also absconded) by whom the said James hath one child to wit John aged three years last Christmas now removed from the said Parish of St. James by an order of removal to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields.
