Examination Text | The Examination of Charlotte Rice lodging at Mr Massie's the lower end of St Martin's Lane in St Martin in the Fields taken this ninth day of April 1781. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 25 years of age, that she is the widow of John Rice who died about four years ago, that she was on the 18th Day of January last delivered at Mr Massie's aforesaid of a female bastard child (since christened Fanny) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that James Murray a Gentleman's Servant but where he is now to be found she cannot tell did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said James Murray is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
