Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Ballentine lodging at Mr Wigg's a Victualler at the sign of the Black Lyon in Charles Court in the Strand in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this sixth Day of September in the year 1779. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 57 years of age, that she is the widow of James Ballentine (who died three years ago last May) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Martin in the Fields nine years ago last May, that her said husband was bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to Samuel Chambers a Waterman in Charles Court aforesaid and there and at sea served his said Master all the said time out, which expired about 30 years ago, that her said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband.
