| Examination Text | The Examination of Margaret Calder in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 25th day of August in the year 1778. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 38 years of age, that she never was married, that she was on the 23rd Day of July last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened Thomas) yet living and is become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that James Fry a journeyman Bricklayer (but where he is to be found she cannot tell) did beget on her body the said male bastard child, and that he the said James Fry is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
