Examination TextThe Examination of Letitia Saunders lodging at Mr Davis in Off Alley in the Parish is in Martin in the Fields taken this seventh Day of September in the year 1785. This Examinant on her oath oath saith that she is about 27 years of age, that she is the widow of William Saunders who died about eight years ago as she this Examinant hath been informed and verily believes to be true to whom she was married in the Parish of St Mary at Newington in the County of Surrey about 10 or 11 years ago, that her said husband was born in London but the particular part she cannot tell, that her said husband never was bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together to this Examinant's knowledge or belief, that she never heard where her husband father or mother belonged to, that she this Examinant since the death of her said husband (she having no child living) was a yearly hired servant to Mr Howell at the Red Lyon in Cock Spur Street in the said Parish of St Martin Fields in the space of two years all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging quitted the same three years ago, that she hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor has been a yearly hired servant (except at Mr Wright at Charing Cross) in any one place for 12 months together since, and this Examinant on her oath further saith that she was on the 22nd Day of July in the year 1782 delivered in Store Street Lying In Hospital of a Male bastard Child (since christened John) yet living and is likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin the Fields, and that John Gastini Sellick did beget of her body the said male bastard child and that the said John Gastini Sellick is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
