Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Maine Singlewoman taken upon Oath this Twenty Seventh Day of August in the year of one Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty ffive Who upon her Oath Saith that she never was married that on Wednesday the thirtyeth Day of July last past she was delivered of a ffemale Bastard Child in the Workhouse of and in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields (since christened Elizabeth) and which is become chargeable to the said Parish and also further Saith that one William Simmonds had the Carnal Knowledge of her Body on a Bed in a Room of a House (as she believes to be in Westminster having never before that time been that way) where they lay all Night together and twas about Michaelmas last and twice since at other Places neither of which doth she now know, where to find nor the Names of the Streets wherein those Houses respectively sttod And that one of which said Times he the said William Simmonds begot on her Body the said ffemale Bastard Child and is the true and only ffather Sworn the Day and Year abovewritten before
