Examination TextThe Examination of Sarah Spencer Singlewoman taken upon Oath this Twenty Third Day of July in the year of Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty ffive Who on her Oath Saith she is about years old that she was born at Bristol where her ffather who was Master of a Vessell kept House in the Parish of St James and that she never was an Apprentice was a yearly hired servant to Alderman Dacy in the Parish of St Nicholas in Bristol aforesaid for the Space of two Years had three Pounds by the Year Wages Diet and Lodging left that Service two Years ago and came thence to London and hath never been in any Service since And further that she was on Thursday the nineteenth day of June last delivered of a ffemale Bastard Child in the Workhouse of and in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields since christened Sarah which hath been chargeable to the said Parish ever since the Birth thereof And also further Saith that one Edward Sherlock a Hackney Coachman lately a Servant to one in Crown Yard at the upper End of the Haymarket in the Parish of St James Westminster had several times in the month of August last past the Carnal Knowledge of her Body (as also before and since) at the House of one in Wells Yard in the Parish of St Giles in the ffields at one of which said Times he begot on her Body the said ffemale Bastard Child and that he the said Body the said ffemale Bastard Child and that he the said Edward Sherlock is the true and only ffather thereof and no man else Sworn the Day and Year abovewritten Before Vide 248
