Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Smith Widow taken upon Oath this Fourteenth Day of March in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty ffour Who on her Oath Saith that she is about twenty two Years of Age that she is the Widow of John Smith who hath been dead sometime but how long she does not know having never seen him since the Eighteenth Day of March last That she was on Tuesday the Eleventh Day of ffebruary last past delivered of a ffemale Bastard Child since christened Elizabeth and which also died on the Nineteenth Day of the same Month in the Workhouse of and in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields and which was chargeable to the said Parish And further on her Oath Saith that Jonathan Pinchbeck a ffan Painter in Round Court had sometime before Whitsontide last the Carnal Knowledge of her Body at the House of one within three or four Doors of the Swan in Tottenham Court Road and never before nor since At which said time he the said Jonathan Pinchbeck did beget on her Body the said ffemale Bastard Child And that he the said Jonathan Pinchbeck is the true and only ffather thereof and no man else Sworn the Day and Year abovewritten Before Thos Deveil Jas Fraser The Mark of Elizabeth Smith
