Examination TextThe Examination of Catherine Say in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 24th Day of September 1774. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 39 years of age, that she is the wife of William Say (who went from her Christmas 1771) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Andrew in the town of Plymouth in the year 1763 (the sixth May), that her said husband was born in Ireland as she this Examinant hath been informed and verily believes, that he was a Marine, that he her said husband never did any act to gain a settlement in England to this Examinant's knowledge, that she this Examinant was born in Hedge Lane in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields as she hath been informed and verily believes, that she never was bound an apprentice kept house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, that her father Robert Keelar was a Soldier, that he was born in that part of Great Britain called Scotland as she this Examinant hath been informed and verily believes, that her said Father never did any act it in England to gain a settlement to this Examinant's knowledge, that her mother was born and married to the said Robert Keelar in Flanders as she this Examinant hath been informed and verily believes.
