Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Shirley singlewoman lodging at one Mr Davis in St Martin's Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken on oath this 21st Day of May 1745. Upon her voluntary oath saith she is about 24 years ago and that she was on Thursday the 16th Day of this instant May delivered of a female bastard child (since christened Elizabeth) in the house of Mr Davis in St Martin's Lane aforesaid yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish, and that one John Cook a Perwig Maker now living in Eagle Street near Red Lyon Square next door to the Coach and Horses there had carnal knowledge of her body some time in or about the latter end of August or September last at Mr Sangets, a Stationer in Newport Alley and several times afterwards at which or one of which times he did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said John Cook is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Taken and sworn the day and year before James Fraser.
